Five Thirty-second rule

We’ve all heard of the “five-second rule”. You have five seconds to pick up that carrot you dropped (not on purpose, I’m sure..) and still be able to eat it (yippee!).
Well, it appears that the five-second rule may not be that accurate after all. Students at the Connecticut College in New London put this rule to the test by conducting experiments in the college’s cafeteria. After dropping apple slices and Skittles in the dining area, their research found that your food is actually safe for about thirty seconds, even more for dry foods. Good news for parents!
My favorite part of the article: “It took 5 minutes for organisms to colonize a Skittle.”
