European shoppers have been using personal scanners for their grocery items prior to reaching the checkout stands for a while, but it looks like the U.S. is catching on. American consumers have use handheld scanners for setting up baby and bridal registries, but the Associated Press reports that the handhelds might be coming to a supermarket near you soon.
