Fast Food Restaurants in NYC Are Not Anxious to Post Calorie Information

Chains such as Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's are holding out for a New York Restaurant Association lawsuit in Federal Court as they refuse to post the calorie content for their menu items.

What are they afraid of? Will people continue to buy ¾ lb. Triples with cheese from Wendy's if they know it has 1950 calories, or a Triple Whooper with cheese from Burger King which has 1230 calories? Probably not considering it has more than or close to the DAILY calorie requirement for the average woman. You won't need a Dietitian to tell you that you are going to gain weight if that is your everyday routine.

For these restaurants, the news gets worse. Not only do they have to post the calorie information, but it has to be the same size as the price right next to it. This may add a new meaning to the term “value” meal...

The deadline for New York City was July 1, 2007, but no fines for noncompliance will be given until October 2007. Who will win this battle? And is this the answer to our obesity problem in America?

These restos know the truth behind the statement "out of sight, out of mind" -- when we don't know what's in or behind our food, we're happy to eat it and pretend nothing is wrong. As long as we are not reminded of the truth, we're OK. I don't think McD's and friends need worry. There are more than enough defeated overweight folks to keep them in business.
