What’s in your cheese?
Sunday, July 1, 2007
For all you cheese lovers, there is something new on the market. Kraft Canada has created the first cheese containing pro-biotic bacteria. I love Activia yogurt with the live cultures; LiveActive is the first cheddar cheese in Canada that contains beneficial probiotic cultures. These types of foods are called “functional foods,” so keep your eyes open next time you go grocery shopping because they are trickling in slowly.
Who would have thought that adding bacteria to food would become trendy? If you are not squeamish, you might want to try it.
The only nutrition concern is the cheese is full fat. To all of those watching your cholesterol and triglycerides, this cheese might not be a good choice. However, there is good news for all of us who suffer from portion distortion. The package shows, with lines, a one-ounce portion size. No more food scales necessary!
