Studies have repeatedly shown that omega-3 fatty acids, found in foods such as nuts, flaxseed, fish and some green vegetables, will lower your risk of prostate cancer, macular degeneration, heart disease and diabetes. Fish and shellfish contain the two most potent forms of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Another form of omega-3 fatty acid, ALA, is found in plant foods such as flaxseed, canola oil and walnuts. The problem is, market products enriched with omega-3 fatty acids use ALA, and only a fraction of ALA can be utilized by the body. Hence, it is recommended to consume at least 11 ounces of fatty fish a week for maximum benefits, but Americans barely consume 3 ounces a week! Check out these tips to help you stay healthy...
