When you are lying in a hospital bed waiting to go 'under the knife' (I never liked that saying), the last thing you want flying through your mind is “What if something goes wrong?!” Yes, a very scary thought whether you are having a simple procedure or a risky surgery. What's even more terrifying is that these surgical mishaps are more common then you think! To hopefully avoid such an error, it has been recommended that you as a patient ask, demand if you have to, that a doctor or nurse make their markings while you are awake and coherent. This can be vital as you may be the 'last defense'.
