Russia Prevents Spiraling Food Prices, but They Have Ulterior Motives

Russia’s biggest food retailers and producers have come to an agreement that is expected to be signed today. The agreement freezes soaring prices at October 15th levels on selected staples like bread, cheese, milk, eggs and vegetable oil until the end of the year.

Russian citizens may think this is great, but most realize there are political reasons behind the freeze. The real reason? Prohibiting the lowering of the Putin administration’s popularity with elections coming in December. The retailers will limit any mark-up on certain foods to 10 percent.

Apparently, Russia is not the only country to control food prices. China, Egypt, Jordan, Bangladesh and Morocco are also lowering prices too. Even richer countries like Italy have organized a pasta boycott in protest of prices.

Unfortunately, food prices have risen globally for a few reasons, including the increasing demand and changing diets in developing countries. Also, more frequent floods and droughts damaging harvests and a growing appetite for more grains.

Maybe Russians should stock up on the staples before the December elections are over and the politicians are through trying to butter them up.

I wish the USA would adopt some of
the measures, Russia,China and other countries are trying. Unfortunately all the Wash.Politicians including the present administration, congress and
H of Reps. are sitting like bumps on a log. they see no evil, they hear not a word of what americans are having to deal with the rising prices, and they have an open check
book for Iraq, pakistan, and their
politicians pockets...think this cold help them if we sent it to our
reps? ha.when I get a letter/questionair from rep.&democrats, I really take time
to fill in the answers/in long hand, and not just check a yes or no answer. oy vay' jl

If you would like to know how everything turns out when politicians get into the business of price control, try reading "We The Living" by Ayn Rand. Although fiction, she describes it as the closest thing to an autobiography she would ever write. That is NOT what you want politicians doing.
