Nutrition food labels are great. They tell you how many calories your food has, how many fat grams, sodium, and all sorts of other information. Food labels are a wonderful tool.... if you know how to read them that is.

The fact of the matter is that many people find it tough to decipher the numbers and end up more confused than informed. If you can relate to this, then the ONQI may be just for you!

The ONQI (Overall Nutritional Quality Index) is a scoring system that will rate foods based on factors like saturated fat, sugar, cholesterol, protein, fiber, etc. Each food will be given a number between 1 and 100, which will help consumers to compare products and make a wiser choice.

This new system is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2008, but for now, you can find out more here.
