Insects in Your Food; Yuck or Yum?

Yuck? Your reaction depends on where in the world you live. Some cultures around the world eat them because they like them and others simply out of need. However, in the United States, I think it is safe to say that most of us eat them without even knowing, or at least without thinking about it. Because if we did, we might think twice.

Processed foods are the biggest culprits. They more often than not have ground insects in them. Many are made with ingredients that are produced directly by insects, like the pigment Carmine.

Kudos to anyone who actually knows what the ingredients are in all the foods they consume and can pronounce them! For all you dieters out there, guess what? Insects are low in calories and fat and high in protein. Yum?
