5. Fish: There's a difference between good and bad fats. Eating good fats like monounsaturated and omega-3s make it easier to stay slim, according to recent research.

"The healthy fats, like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, are found in fish, nuts, olive oil and avocado, while the bad fats, like saturated and trans are found in butter, shortening, pre-packaged cakes and cookies," Ryan says.

A Wake Forest University study found that over a 6-year period, participants whose only source of fat was trans fats gained 30 percent more fat in their abdominal region and had early signs of diabetes. You don't have to fear fats if you know which are good and bad.

Exercise and follow these simple guidelines and you'll be on your way to an abs-olutely amazing midsection!

Try dark chocolate - really dark, I like the Lindt 75%. Just a couple squares a day and it has similar anti-oxidant properties as wine.

I'm the same way, however, it's other health concerns that preclude alcohol of any kind. Plus, over the years, due to illnesses as an infant, my teeth litterly rotted out of my head despite all attempts otherwise. So now 'toothless', nuts are not on the menu. Compounding that, I got a hold of some salmon that was used to 'import' contraband, and was sick for weeks! I can get cod down, but that's about it! So, suggestions?

You people need to update your antquated view of "good fats". Trans fats, man made gunk that's been hydrogenated is the bad stuff. Also oils like canola, soy and "vegetable" oils that are heat processed not cold pressed are less than optimal. Saturated fats from coconuts, butter an animal fats are very protective for our bodies and help us burn body fat. You should do more research if you are going to give advice.

Avocado, about 2tbs for good fats and Omega 3 supplements.

Fish. What other types of fish are o.k. to eat? Like tuna fish in a can, salmon in a can?

Natural Mom, you need to update your sources of information...saturated fats, particularly those from butter or other animal sources are absolutely NOT protective for our bodies and also do NOT help our bodies burn body fat, rather they do exactly the opposite in addition to a laundry list of other damaging things. Coconut oil is different than animal fats in that the fatty acids in coconut oil are short-chain whereas those in animal fat are long chain. This had lead some to believe that they behave differently in the body, and that they may have protective qualities. Current research suggests that coconut oil is really no better than butter.

for the person with teeth issues ... I understand have had teeth problems my whole life. In fact my bite is such that I am constantly breaking my molars and have yet to be able to afford the orthodontics to get it corrected..blah.. BUT I've found unsalted roasted sliced almonds from Trader Joe's are quite easy to chew, and are much much easier to chew than whole almonds and they don't get stuck in your teeth the way sunflower seeds can. Also walnuts tend to be an easier nut to chew as well. Hope that helps some.
