Many people fail at losing weight because they attempt to make drastic changes and rearrange their lives to fit into some strict diet. This is a recipe for disappointment. People make drastic changes and expect to see drastic results.

However, you didn't wake up one morning 20 pounds overweight. It was a gradual progression packing those pounds on and it will be a steady process taking them off. So any dramatic changes that seem unnatural probably are and the key to proper weight loss is in the details.

Following these 3 easy steps can help you shed several pounds over the course of the year without abandoning your favorite foods or trading your social life for a gym membership. It's the simple switches in life that will make weight loss manageable and let you keep living your life.

1. Think before you drink! A 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola packs 140 calories and 39 grams of carbs. If you have one can a day as an afternoon pick-me-up, over the course of the year that adds up to over 51,000 calories -- that's roughly 14 pounds! Switch to coffee or tea to save calories and carbs, but stay away from sugar and cream to keep the count down.

Sports drinks are another way to cut calories. The casual exerciser does not need them. If you are exercising for 45 minutes or less, water will be just fine to replenish you. Most of these other drinks pack over 100 calories and can undo a lot of the exercise you just did.

2. Sandwich switch: Hold the mayo when it comes to sandwiches -- or anything else for that matter. One tablespoon adds about 100 calories and 10 grams of fat to your sandwich. If you must use mayo, switch to the light stuff and get about half the fat and calories. Mustard is the best bet for your sandwich; it has 10-20 calories per tablespoon.

3. Tiny steps to weight loss. It's not necessary to wake up at 5 a.m. every day for a grueling gym workout. That works for some people, but is not necessary. Start by making little moves to get more motion in your daily activities. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, take a walk after lunch, park further away in the parking lot, do jumping jacks while you watch TV, play basketball with your kids, walk the dog… There are a million ways to get a few more steps and burn a few more calories daily. A pedometer is a great way to track this progress.

Ever seen the commercial "My husband gave up soda and lost 40lbs. I haven't had a soda in 2 years and I lost 4 lbs." Then she drops water in the dogs bowl by accident and even he gets skinny? That's the way it is for most of us. Little tips like this are cute for girls who need to lose that stubborn five lbs. The rest of us who have real problems....well, sorry but your cute little articles are the biggest joke as we get up at five a.m. and head to the gym to kill ourselves so we can fit in our jeans AND we still haven't had soda in two years!!!

It's true that giving up soda won't make you thin, but giving up a lot of the little things you take for granted will. That is the point behind the article. As you get older you HAVE to eat less and move more in order to counter balance a rapidly declining metabolism. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. Exercise is very important for weight loss but it does not stand alone. If you really want to lose weight you don't have to kill yourself at the gym at 5 am. Just start cutting calories and exercise portion control and in a few months you will see a marked difference.

Really think before you grab what you eat. Think: Is this healthy for me at all? How am I gonna feel after I eat this? When did I eat last and was it nutritious? What can I eat that will have some protein, little fat, some carbs? Am I tired or hungry? I do this to make sure I'm ready to eat and except "my choice". After all we make our own choices. Realize this! You can choose to be healthy, lose weight, or what ever your goal is. Stick to your guns and take ownership for your choices.

If you will take the chip off your shoulder, listen to good advice from web sites like this or a nutritionist, and seek help, you may have success at weight loss. I am 10 years older than you are, was 100 pounds over weight, and have serious health issues and I am losing a pound a week. That may not sound like much but in a year's time, that will be a lot. I saw a nutritionist 4 months ago. I eat something small every 3 hours to try to get my metabolism going again. SMALL meals, 10 almonds or a fruit for snacks. No sugar items. Forget the cake, candy, and cookies if you are serious. If you just can't live without something sweet, eat a piece of sugar free hard candy. If you are serious you can lose. I walk in the pool for 1 hour 4 times a week. (I worked up to this. The first time I went it was an hour trip just to walk in the pool 10 minutes). Losing weight requires a lot of hard work, a lot of effort and time. It can be done when you make the decision to be serious and seek help. If you go out to eat cut your entire meal in half before you start eating and throw the rest out. Meals in restaurants are 2 portion size. Do not go to fast food places. If you need to eat out, get a turkey or grilled chicken sandwich on wheat bread from Subway. No Mayo. Eat it dry! Limit your oils and fats. Do not eat anything white like rice, bread, pasta. Everything needs to be whole wheat because it is healthier. There a hundreds of other tips a nutritionist can tell you. You can afford it too. Cut out some of the things in your life that are not as important as being alive and getting healthy. I was in your shoes and I was the angry one. If I can change, anyone can if they choose to.

Dreama.. you mention that you eat every 3 hours to get your metabolism going... is that what eating every three hours does... I always hear to eat small meals throughout the day, but is it true that if you eat every three hours that you will speed up your metabolism...if so than for me it might be worth doing..

I lost 30 pounds 4 years ago, and am working to get rid of the 10 pounds that has come back! I think most peoples biggest mistake is portion size; at home I now give myself 1/2 of what my husband and adult son eat, and in a restaurant, I order either a 1/2 portion, or an appetizer, or ask for 2 plates, and share my meal with one of the above.I never end up feeling hungry after eating. I realize now that the weight started to come back when I stopped being careful how much I put on my plate.

The more frequent and healthy the snack and meals the more they speed up the metabolism.You can have a piece of chocolate once in a while as bad as it may sound but that is an antioxidant and as long as it is more than 60% cocoa.Weight has a lot to do with different factors:my mom she had 3 kids,I am the eldest and my brother who is almost 13 (when my mom was 36).After she had me and my sister she snapped back into shape because she was younger(in her 20's) and because she could but after my brother's birth she packed on some pounds that she cannot get rid off.You can complain about weight and this and that yet if you do not have any knowledge about what you feed your body,how many cals you eat and how many you burn,etc..You are the one person who can take charge of what you eat and all things that you incorporate in your life.You should do something with your life vs.bitching about how life sucks because you weigh more than your friend or so.Is weight all that matter really?I know girls who are skinny and the epitemy of others yet stupid as heck and some of my smart friends are not skinny so that means that just because you are a bit big you find a million flaws because doing you will find unhappiness.

The commercial is funny, at the same time if you don't have fun losing weight it becomes more of a burden. I was on Jenny Craig and lost my first 20 pds. I get bored easy, so I stopped. I am trying to do it on my own. I did learn alot with JC, portion control, calorie intake, watch the fat intake. It is a matter of choice what we put in our mouth. Don't play the blame game instead focus on your goal. If I fall off the wagon, I don't punish myself with negative talk I simply jump back on it. After all, I didn't gain all this weight at once. I am excited and determine to succeed and I focus on this. I know what I am doing wrong and why I'm not losing. I am weak when it comes to salt, chips, peanuts, etc. I recently changed to baked chips. I've decided to take baby steps to reach my goal. I am also trying to teach my 15 yr. old healthier habits. My husband is not overweight, but does have diabetes so my daughter might be affected by it. It's all in where I see myself in 3 to 5 yrs. I see myself eating healthier and being healthier with my body. I am 47, it sure was easy gaining the pds. and it is going to take time taking them off, that is my penalty for all the bad choices I made, but it's never to late. Give yourself credit where it is due whether half, one or two pds. Thanks elise

Annonymous, I could have written your post....two years ago I gave up sugar and white flour. I lost 34 lbs by also cutting portions,walking and doing core training on a physio ball. I have gained 10 back because my portions have gone back up and I'm not exercises due to a torn meniscus in my knee. HOWEVER, I have still not had any cookies, cake, candy, etc. How? I told myself that I'm no different than an alcoholic....I am a confessed sugaraholic. If I eat one bite of that cookie, I will crave and want the whole bag. I can't do it. I will always be a sugaraholic so I can never have it again. I HAVE to use this mentality. Although I want to loose the extra 10 lbs, I know that I am healthier without the sugar. My arthritis pain is diminished and I have more energy. Now I just need to get back to smaller portions and more exercise....

I see all of your comments and they are great. Lots of tips and things to lose weight. The only two things missing are: 1.- Sleep and 2.- Limit your stress. Of course that we have to burn what we eat. However, getting enough sleep and not so much cortisol (stress) makes a huge difference too!

I was doing great several years ago, had lost 20-30 pounds. Don't know exactly what happened, but I gradually slipped out of my self-discipline and began eating some of the wrong foods, not exercising, not watching portion sizes carefully. I know exactly what to do, but right now I'm just not doing it.

Dreama, it isn't fair that men can lose weight easier, but that's because they have more lean muscle and muscle burns more calories than fat. I've lost 80 lbs over the past two years. I'm almost 60 and I learned to swim at 58. It is my main way of exercising and dealing with stress. I've also become a vegetarian (I eat eggs and dairy) and feel better. It still is a daily battle with temptation. I'm the original cookie monster, but I know that I can't eat the first one or the entire bag will be gone. I feel 100% better than I did 2 yrs ago. It is worth it to me. My taste buds have definitely changed. You can do anything you set your mind to do. Good luck, girl. Sandi

Dreama and anonymaous just swung to two extremes:one of dejection and the other give up all
Neither helps.
Give up this give up that is the first step to failing in good health-no food is good food and no food is bad food.
Dreama eat everything you want-I follow Paul Mckenna idea-eat anything and everything
So psychologically I dont feel I am sick.
Fill your plate-as I do and then sort that out into three little plates-eat one now,the others just keep it there.
And when you eat make sure you do two thingsLchew your food
Fatter people swallow food-so chew-sit down and chew slowly-you cant finish that one portion when you chew-believe me
Then put your spoon and fork down-so food into mouth-spoon/fork/down-chew
When mouth is empty , lift your spoon
Eat consciously-no other distractions.
Does it help?-hugely-yes
Try and see for yourself the amazing results-these are the small changes that we need to do

If you really want to lose weight, the first line of defense is you mind. You have to re-arrange your way of thinking and your priorities. Second, don't think about the 60 or 100 lbs. that have to come off. Think smaller. I personally do five pounds at a time. I don't put a time limit on when the weight has to be off. I do slip up once in a while but I jump right back on the horse and continue on with my day. So far I've lose 20 pounds but still have a long way to go. Third, forget the diet pills. They only work because you think they do. Put that energy into yourself and you will be amazed at the results.

I really appreciate everyone's comments. It's so true that the older we become the harder it is to loose weight. I'm now 44 and about 30 pounds over what I should be. I made a decision about 2 months ago to just start eating healthier. I try to eat more fiber,less carbs, and really watch the sugar intake. I don't concern myself with counting fat grams too much. I have lost about 7 pounds so far. It's a slow process, but I have more energy and a little bit better outlook on life. I'm still working on portion control since it seems to be my biggest downfall. I found that soy milk,wheat breads and mustard have helped. I now use mustard all the time instead of mayo. I mix it in my tuna and add a little dill with a couple of banana peppers. It's really tasty and much lower in calories. And if you really want a sweet snack, try reaching for a Fiber One Oats & Peanut butter bar. It taste just like a candy bar, only has 150 calories and is packed with fiber. I eat one everyday for a mid-morning snack. I also found that I drink a lot more water if I add plenty of ice and lots of lemon and lime slices. I have also gotten in the habit of weighing myself every morning. I know they say you shouldn't do that, but it really keeps me on track. If I've gained a pound back then I just cowgirl up and make myself even more aware of the day's choices. If I've lost a pound then I cowgirl up and make myself even more aware of the day's choices in hopes of seeing another pound bit the dust !!! It really is the little changes that can make a big difference.

to sharadhakv, Try a vegetable called spagetti squash. It looks like an ablong melon and can be found in most grocery stores. It is a pale yellow in color. Just cut it in half ( length ways ) scoop out the seeds and pop it in the microwave for about 5 minutes. Please note that it will be very hot so use potholders to remove. Let it set for another 5 minutes to cool and then take a fork and rake out the meat inside. You can eat it plain which is how I like it. Or you can sprinkle a little cinnomon ontop. It is filled with fiber, low carbs and only 40 calories in a whole cup ! You can also use it as a sbstitute for pasta or any kind of noodle dinner. Good luck to you with your operation. I have done a lot reading about proper weight for your height, etc. The thing that made the most sense to me was that you should not buy into the idea that as you get older, you simply have to gain weight. I read an article that said that if you were healthy and active when you graduated from high school, your lifetime weight fluctuation shouldn't be more than 10%. I was the picture of health at the age of 18 when I graduated and I weighed 93 pounds. (I'm only 5'3"). That means that if I get to be more than 102 pounds, I'm not at a healthy weight. I find truth in this, as I was at 127 pounds for several years after my son was born, and a few years ago made a few lifestyle changes that took me down to 101 pounds without even trying. I was healthy, happy, energetic, and enjoying buying clothes for the first time in a long time. Do you know what happened? Everyone around me thought I had become a drug addict or had cancer. It just wasn't natural for someone my age (53) to be that slender. My doctor even told me if I dropped anymore weight he'd put me in the hospital for tests. It was like everyone around me got into the act, trying to 'fatten me up,' especially my husband who would buy all the foods he knew I couldn't resist. Well, they succeeded. I'm back up to 129 pounds, and I'm not happy, and I'm not healthy, and I'm not energetic, and I have a whole closet full of beautiful, expensive clothes that no longer fit me. My best weight loss tip is don't listen to anyone else in your life about your weight. You know where you're comfortable and their opinions don't count. If you have people in your life who make it hard for you to eat healthy and maintain a healthy weight, get rid of them. They're not acting in your best interests anyway. They're acting in their own best interests. Friends don't want you to look better than they do, and husbands don't want anyone else to look at you, period! Eat a lot of vegetables, drink a lot of water, and if you have any room left, eat protein and some grains. If you're still not full, then it's emotional and get some help.

This is all excellent advice! Drinking plenty of water is also very important. I keep a large bottle of water in different parts of my home and office to drink from as a reminder to drink. I happen to like room temperature water so this works for me. I learned that often, what seems to be hunger is really thirst or boredom. Much power to you all in your efforts! XO, Jackie

Just remembering to start and finish your day with 6 to 8 glasses of water can really help to shed pounds and, if you add to that 20 to 30 minutes of walking or jumping jacks 3 to 4 times a week, that can truly jumpstart your weight loss. Also, remember not to be too hard on yourself if you slack off a day here or there. Just get back on track right away and remember that this is something you are doing for yourself and, after all, if you aren't worth it, then who is?

I totally stopped drinking soda and it was easy but I forgot about quitting it and couldn't figure out why I lost 13 pounds, my doctor was puzzled also but then I remembered the soda and he confirmed that's exactly why you lost 13 pounds (in just under a year) Hard to believe but very true!!

Having a positive outlook and not beating yourself up over everything makes a huge difference. A little something each week is better than a bunch of nothing... when it comes to just moving your body or switching out one thing from your weekly menu to make it just a wee bit more healthy or lower the calories. Attitude is the biggest contributor to both success and obsticles. I also believe in writing down your goals. Little baby steps that lead to a huge wonderful target. I like to say - I want to be a size ____ not I want to lose ____ pounds. Those are my tips.... hope they help.

I have watched alot of these tv advertisement, web ad...alot of things which they say tht you can lose weight when u give up something. Well, i have been exercising over a month, but i m nt seeing results....my way of eating its been okay, i dun take sodas at all..its like very rare....whats tht suppose to be like?????

I have to tell you, all the stuff they say works.....doesn't. I have eaten small meals, nothing happened. I have given up, coffee, soda, sugar, I read labels, I have cut out all high fructose corn syrup, I have eaten enough salad to start growing a fluffy tail and long ears....yuck. So I gave all this up too. I still don't drink coffee or Soda, except on special occations, I watch my hfcs intake, but I eat like there is no tomorrow, but only 3 times a day. My husband and I have gotten back in to camping, which we love to do. We have been riding our pedal bikes at the camp ground. We also have 4-wheelers and we go for rides often. So we are getting more excersize, even the packing up to go, I get more excersize. In and out of the camper, up and down off the 4 wheeler trailer, riding the pedal bikes. I always park at the far end of the parking lot when going to Walmart. But the biggest thing that helps is getting control of my stress. My husband and I own and run our own construction company.(plus 9 employees) He does the work and I do the bookkeeping. We are learning how to leave it behind and take some long weekends. We have had some family upsets in the past and we are learning how to let it all go, because there is nothing we can do about it anyway. I don't watch a scale, it too depressing, but I have noticed that my jeans are fitting better, and I am happier and I am more friendly.

Tips for losing weight effectively: Exercise with a friend, eat healthier foods, do not eat late at night, drink lots of water, cut out alcohol, get plenty of sleep. I can lose 2-3 lbs. a week easily. I allow myself to eat junk food a couple of times a week (small portion). I do weigh everyday, in order to not gain and to cut calories when I am gaining. This works great for me. I am 45 years old with three children. I am currently dieting, and lost 3 lbs. last week. On one of those days I had a cheesdeburger Happy Meal. I am currently 15 lbs. overweight. 2 lbs x 5 weeks = 15 lbs. Easy.

No matter how much you work out, if you do not watch what you put in your mouth, you will see no progress.
Eat healthier and smaller portion sizez. I agree that working out with a friend is a good idea, to get you motivated. Another good idea is arranging an appointment with a trainer when joining a gym, so that you know your way around the place, and are not afraid to use different machines, once you know what they do and how to use them. They can also help you develop a workout schedule to suit your personal needs.
Everything in moderation; you can enjoy a soda now and then, just not every day and preferrably not every week. Think about the impact on your body, but also on your teeth ! Yuck, it's rotting them away. Don't drink your calories. They say to drink about 8 glasses of water a day, which will keep you satiated. Try drinking it at room temp, and I guarantee it will come easier than downing bottles of cold water.
About an hour after working out, drink an 8 oz glass of non or low fat milk. Research has shown that people lose more weight by doing this than those who don't, or those who choose wheatgrass or soy, etc.
Be careful when eating out. I hate it when someone says, I'm trying to watch what I eat", and they order a chicken caesar salad, packing around 600 calories or more, and at least 45 grams of fat, not to mention over half your daily sodium intake. Women have to watch this especially, because sodium increases water retention. Might as well get that cheeseburger.
Fast food is the abseloute worst thing you can choose when dieting. It's really just not good for anyone, with sky- rocketing sodium content, unbelievable hidden fats, and way too many carbs. They do not display their nutrition content visibly in their stores, for a reason. If everyone knew what was in their food, it would probably turn off a few customers.
You can have dessert! Reward yourself, but don't over- indulge: split it with a friend... Everything in moderation, it's okay to reward yourself now and then.
One huge, huge mistake that many women make is idolizing women in the magazines and setting unrealistic, unhealthy diets that deprive them of their daily needed nutrients and vitamins. I will say that I do modeling myself, and know first hand that it's easy to find yourself wishing to squeeze into a size zero. But here's a secret they don't want you to know: skinny people are unhappy. I love food way too much to ever give it up. Besides, when you comlpetely deprive yourself of something [carbs, fats, food in general, etc... ], as soon as you continue back to your normal eating habits (which you will, because starving gets old, real quick), your weight will shoot right back up to what it was before.
It is true that small, reasonable, frequent meals increase your metabolism. (So does exercise).
Develop a work- out plan, and watch what you put into your mouth by checking labels

Any journey starts with the first step, and just like one soda a day can add up to 14 pounds a year, small changes can make a big difference. It's important to set small manageable goals instead of thinking about the total amount of weight you need to lose.

Many times people can get help from natural weight loss remedies. Unlike over the counter diet pills, these dont contain all the harmful chemicals and stimulants that cause jittery side effects.

Be careful of depriving yourself of certain foods like cheeseburgers and cookies. I did that and lost 10 lbs but once I started eating fast food again I gained it back and then some. I've learned to allow myself to have it every now and then. Now I'll have a cheeseburger instead of a big mac (no fries, no coke). I have lost 25 lbs and have managed to keep it off. Having the smaller meals during the day has help a lot as well.

I've been 6 ft and 125 for 38 yrs.
After 5 children and reaching the ripe age of 50, my weight slowly started to climb to 165 with 90% min my gut. I've tried smaller meals, lots of water, no eating out, cut out fat, included metabolism boosting foods but no luck. I've 60 now with copd and am limited with

thankful i reacently lost my mother. and that unfortunately was the start of my weight loss. i lost 15 lbs in a month and i also found out that i have type two diabetis. this experience has totally changed my eating habits, without salt and execessive carbs, more fruits and veggs along with moderate exercise i am able to keep not only my weight down my blood sugars are also stable. so you see some things can be a blessing in disguise.

sir i am likely walking daily 1 houre. morrning&evening. pleas tell me how many kgs waight loss in 2 months. i am eat morring oate barrly. lunch not nessery. night same or small cup of rice or chaapthy.

Hi, I m Nandini from India. At one point of time, i was over weight by 12 kgs but now i m back in shape with a healthy body and mind, thanks to Yoga, pilates and some restrictions in diet. I believe in eating healthy, though sometimes eating a bit here and there is ok..afterall we are humans, not god.But i never touch cold drinks, or any kind of overtly fried foods and gorge on baked items when dinning out.

i'm 37 and I am having trouble losing weight like everyone. I am a personal Support worker so my job is very physical, on top of raising 5 children, so cooking meals is challenging and housework. So at the end of my workday and coming home to cook and attend to the younger children I am so tired I don't want to actually go and exercise. I was when the weather was nice and take the kids to the trails to bike ride, but now it's colder, dark faster ect... because I do home care, does anyone have suggestions on what I could pack to eat while I'm on the road all day that might help cause usually i don't eat at all till I come home. with no gallbladder I find I have trouble with certain foods... HELP

I have to agree with dreama. Does eDeiets honestly think that the readers of their website drink soda regularly? Their readership is already interested in health and fitness our they wouldn't be at the site. How about giving us some solutions for stalled wet loss AFTER the soda has been cut.

Like many I was at the end of 'myself' when I had 2 cousins die in their sleep of sudden cardiac arrest, one in his 40's, one in his 50's, and I weighed 426 (female, 49 at the time, 2004). I decided to have gastric bypass surgery and started reading everything I could find on nutrition and exercise and these pages at e-diets and keeping notebooks of the best articles. After surgery in May, 2005 I have lost 260 pounds, am at 166, exercise 5 days a week at a circuit gym, eat protien, fruits, veggies and whole grains (and occasional dark chocolate). Plus, three months ago added the Flat Belly Diet ( includes Mono-Unsaturated Fatty Acids) to my regimen lately to get rid of the last few pounds of belly fat, where I carried the majority of my weight and have huge amount of hanging skin that will eventually be removed by surgery -- a good thing to look forward to! I am in a Misses size 16 jeans (down from a 5X), for the first time since undergraduate college. My "Real Age" is 9 years younger than my actual age! People, the suggestions on the pages here WORK! Plus the Grace of God and 12-Step programs, to give me the strength and the ability to stick with a food plan, drinking 2-3 liters of water a day and the exercise routine I have worked up to (started out with baby steps, 'literally') have made my weight loss a PERMANENT part of my life style and healthy living my way of life! Now I eat to Live not Live to eat! My doctor, on the teaching faculty of a local university medical school, a year and a half ago, and 70 pounds ago, told me I had increased my life expectancy to 96-- I told her "I'll take 106!" As with any type of plan, It Works If You Work It! You Can Do It!

Guysss!!! Be Ur own health adviser because no one knows u better than u. Its one year since I actually started loosing weight orite? I lost 10kgs. And I went slowly on it n still going on to loose more but it’s become much easier than before. I mean I just didn’t do it all of a sudden like stop eating all the fast food n all the unhealthy stuffs which r my n everyone’s favorite. because if u think abt it u will realize that stopping something suddenly will only cause u to gain those back or have a serious calorie counting issues n that results in u not being ur self because u will be so stressed n busy in counting n thinking abt ur calories intake than enjoying ur food n know what u eating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So stop dieting……because diets don’t work n u know wats the reason? Because it gives u a limit n restriction to whatever u like so give Ur self a chance to know Ur self.
Ok just to make it easy give ur self a time of week in which u eat whatever u want without controlling ur portion or exercising I mean just eat without thinking abt loosing weight. First week is over now go stand in front a mirror, weigh in n ask Ur self what do I want n why do I want to loose weight?? U will surly get some answer n if u don’t then open a magazine n look for a dress which u adore the most out of all the other dresses n ask ur self what should I do to look just like that(thin). So guys keep on motivating Ur self n go slowly. And later on eating healthy n exercising becomes easier n enjoyable not a burden. And u will not a a problem following these healthy eating articles.

I loved this article! It really is true that if you just make little changes and are PATIENT... then you will lose the weight. I have a 30lb weight loss goal, and over the course of 9 months I've lost 17 of those pounds. Just by doing what this article suggests and making small changes in my life. I'm 70 and have changed my eating habits. I limit my portions and and have added brown rice to my diet.

I cook a large batch of brown rice and keep it the fridg. I use the rice in soups I make myself (chicken with vegies). This is often lunch. I have brown rice for breakfast with 2% milk and a little cinnamon sugar. The brown rice is very filling.

During the day I'll have a spoon of cruchie Peanut Butter if I feel hungry...

I eat one container of Activa each day, and found Betty Crocker Fiber One premium Muffin Mix to which I add dried cranberries, Chopped walnuts, and (5 coffee scoops) of cold milled flax..you have to adda little more water and one more egg (or two egg whites) A little slice is great for an after meal (or between meal) treat. It's very filling. (Drink a large glass of water before you eat it... more after)

I too have a slow digestive tract and have found these changes have helped that and I am loosing weight.(I eat half of what I used to eat no matter what it is)

Will losing weight reduce the inflammation and the chronic pain of being 50 pounds overweight? Please anyone that suffers from this pain give me a answer??

So, I've started my diet a few weeks ago. I started off the first week just staying away from junk food and drinking lots of water. I was also doing the slimquick cleanse program. That is really a great way to start out your diet. The only down side is that it caused me to get a stomach ache everyone and awhile. So i cut the dosage in half. Now i have a couple pick me up pills whenever I need them. Now that i'm done with the first week. I do the Tae Boe 8minute work out. Its great for people that dont have a lot of time or are just starting out. In 8 minutes you burn about 200 calories. So I eat a breakfast, have a snack, lunch, snack, tae boe, 7:00 dinner. Before i go to bed i do 60 crunches to each side, straddle lifts (80) and butt ups (pelvic thrusts) 100. that works my inner thighs my butt right below my butt and my abs. I also only drink water and gatorade. I have been doing pretty good so far. I lost a little weight. probably around 6pounds. =] its really not hard to stick to at all. I hope this helped.

Hey Dreama I'm about ur age and I am in the same boat with you. i finally had some success..i just stopped driving and for the past 2 years i am either walking to where i need to go and wear a pedometer to track my milage (10,000steps per day for some weight loss0 or i am running to catch a bus or a train . It's the only thing that has made any difference for me i went from 203 to 185 whch for me is great i could never get the scale 2 budge before that.

It really helped me to get rid of all the surgary, fatty sweets. I emptied my cabinets of cookies, candy bars, donuts, non fat-free ice cream, and other stuff. Now I keep hershey kisses. If I get a craving that I just can't get to go away or I feel like I've been doing extremely well with my diet and exercise, and I've had a somewhat hard day I will have a single kiss. In the past I have broke down and gorged on a candy bar or box of donuts after about 2 weeks of being deprived from them. Then out the window all my hard work went. Now I eat a kiss, or other small miniature candy, and go on about my day.

Losing weight is rarely fun or easy.For many of us who lack discipline it can be extremely frustrating.A couple of things that work for me are: 1) WRITE DOWN EVERY FOOD OR BEVERAGE YOU CONSUME WHETHER OR NOT IT CONTAINS CALORIES.MAKE IT A HABIT.2)MEASURE EVERY PORTION. 3)EAT SOMETHING EVERY 2-3 HOURS. It can be time consuming and may take planning,but for me it makes eating a conscious event.I write my whole days menu every morning as I eat breakfast.I wish I had more space here to share some healthier versions of unhealthy favorites,but I will encourage people to consider replacing mayo with 1 tablespoon of Hummus.Delicious,and only 20-30 cals depending on what kind you use.Awesome with turkey,baby spinach, tomato, and banana peppers for a kick all in a whole wheat,lo-carb wrap.

Allot of talk about eating small portions more often you here every where. However, this is in fact true with proper portion size, with the correct ratio of carbs, fats, and protiens. Always look at nutritional information and become familiar with what you are buying and putting into your mouth. Unfortunately, there is a bit of math involved if you really want to take it seriously and keeping a record of what you eat helps. Knowing what a good amount of calories per day of intake for your sex/age/size will help you choose what to buy for each meal/snack. When looking at carbs, find food items that are higher in fiber, an item that has 28g of carbs and 26g of those carbs are coming from sugar is not a good choice. Also high protein is something to look for, items that have soy protein are best but are going to be harder to find, so shoot for as high of a protein grams as you can find. Eat a breakfast, a snack, a lunch, a snack, supper, and a snack before bed, this will help your body and blood sugar stay on the level and best support weight loss. I've seen people including myself loose weight just by changing their eating habits to that listed above with-out exercise. Adding exercise will only help rev up that metabolism, and burn the extra calories. Breakfast should consist of high fiber, with protein, for instance 8oz milk with a small bowl of oatmeal, or one egg with a piece of 12 grain bread or toast, and add a small portion of fruit. First snack is best with high protein, nuts, protein bars/shakes (watch the calories on these as not all created equal) or one of my favorites is fish. Tuna, sardines, or salmon are all powerful protein packers and you get the omega 3s to boot. Lunch should consist of a salad with dressing provided you limit dressing to a fat free, and a meal that is high in protein and fiber, keeping the calories as low as possible. The salad you can eat as much as you want. For your afternoon snack a fruit is a good choice. Supper you want a mix of things, start with a salad then choose a high protein/fiber item, a vegetable, and a piece of 12 grain bread or toast. For your night time snack choose something that fits in with your calories for the day, best to keep it in a decent protein/carb ratio, but a dark chocolate or the like as a treat is a nice end to the day, just watch the portion size. With all this eating 6 times a day you may find it tough at first to figure out a good balance of when you need to eat that snack or supper so you need to balance it out through trial and error over a couple of weeks. Keep in mind if you get a hunger pang in between a meal, drink some water, it helps some and is something your body needs anyways. They say you should be taking in 50 to 75 percent of your weight in ounces of water every day. So if your 150 pounds 50 percent is 75 ounces minimum. That is a lot of water, more than 9-8oz glasses per day. I hope this helps some. My suggestion is start with small steps, if you don’t eat breakfast, start there, then later on add a snack or lunch. Breakfast is HUGE, it gives your body a place to start the day, make time for it.

Portion control is key along with writing every calorie that I put into my mouth, it includes the calories in the skim milk in my coffee, it includes the salad dressing that I make myself, it includes the extra bite I took off my sons plate. I find when I am not measuring and counting the calories my total intake in a day wanders. When I track my exercise, my portions and my calories it works. I am a 5 am gym rat and have been for 4 years - 5 days a week, this year when I looked at my portions of the correct foods, I started loosing the 1-2 lbs a week, I have lost 12 lbs and I am going for 10 more.

I've never been a soda drinker, but I've always been an avid exerciser. I used to eat a lot of junk food, and once I quit the junk the pounds started coming off. I'm one of those people who's at the gym at 5am to swim a few days a week and do weights the other days. I also play tennis, walk my dog daily, work in the garden, horseback ride, etc. I don't care how much I exercise, if I don't eat right, the weight isn't going anywhere.

good ideas all. i am 52 and can say my best tip is find a friend someone you can share the good the best and encourage you to hang in there when everything just is that hanging in there. i cut out cokes and found diet cokes are bad so drinking water and its just that dressed up dressed up water but that is okay...am i losing weight quickly heck no am i exercising yes...it will be a long slow road but i did not get here overnight either.......good luck to all of you....exercise eat less...no short cut no easy solutions....just one day at a time....AA except with food in a way...

I have just recently lost 38lbs and I am still losing. I now weigh 165 and still have 30lbs to lose at 5'7". It is as simple as this I was eating what I wanted when I wanted and wasn't doing much of anything which does NOT work once you get into your thirties. Cut the amount of calories that you are eating, actually let yourself get hungry for once, quit eating when you are bored or mad or stressed and get moving. Eat less than what you are burning.

Well, if you can't lose weight by quitting soda, that just means you're making up for the lost calories with other food. I've found that the best way to lose weight is to make sure you don't clean your plate (eat till you're not hungry, not until you're full), drink lots of water, and make sure you move around.

One thing that works for me is to make sure I keep my house clean and fix my hair and makeup every day. It's not a lot of moving, but it helps. When you make sure you feel good about yourself, you'll be more conscious about what you're putting in your mouth.

Yes I too have cut down sodas & coffee. I drink more water,and herbal teas w/out sugar. Also I have found that if I write down everything I eat even if its a bite I start cutting down cause if I don't want to see it in black and white I don't put it in my mouth!
