11. Aspartame is dangerous to your health.

False. How sweet it is! Aspartame is a sweetener produced from amino acids, and research shows that in amounts recommended by the manufacturer, it's not dangerous to your health. Some people may prefer sucralose (Splenda) made from sugar, a more "natural" sweetener alternative.

I agree with your statement that aspartame has not been proven to be dangerous to one's health. However, I completely disagree that sucralose is a safe alternative to aspartame. It has been proven that sucralose is made from a sugar molecule where the remove a hydroxyl group and replace it with chlorine. So in essence you are poisoning your body by using this stuff. I personally had a bad experience with sucralose or splenda and have had friends and family members suffer from similar painful symptoms from using sucralose on a daily basis. If you want a good, natural, and safe sugar alternative, use Stevia (which is now FDA approved and is all natural and considered a fiber supplement) or truvia which is made from stevia. Stevia in the raw from the makers of sugar in the raw is also available at some stores now.

If you want more proof about the dangers of sucralose, google up splenda and you will find plenty of horror stories.

Avoid Splenda and Aspartame and opt for Stevia instead!

If you believe Aspartame and Splenda are safe you need do your own research;and make a truly educated choice whether to use or avoid them. Your research should be an unbiased party not looking to gain something. The manufacturers will tell you it is safe, they are trying to sell it to you and many other BIG companies. Aspartame is genetically engineered. And sugar farmers are in an uproar tha t Splenda is marketed as "made from sugar". DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

ALL ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS are dangerous!! Yes the manufacturers would like you to think that they are okay in moderation. There have been many studies conductive and they have all concluded that it is sheer poison. The ILL INFORMEDED writers for this website should not be giving such false information!

Aspertame can be extremely dangerous for some. Do some research and watch how your body reacts. Symptoms can mimic MS and it is not fun to experience or go through the testing. I did testing several times until my doctor found information on aspertame and I removed it from my diet all neurological symptoms disappeared.

I can't believe I am still coming across references to aspartame being a safe sweetener. I am speechless. I can't even begin to tell you the difference I have seen in my health when aspartame was omitted. Like others have said, do your own research. Don't forget to look in to who developed aspartame. It is a shame when the safety of our food is all about politics and not about what is really good for people.

Please...i have used asparteme for years and guess what? I am still here. If you are diabetic it is a life saver. And as far as anything being OKAYED by the FDA, years later they always find some disease linked to some food FDA approved and or not. There are alot of "natural" things on the market that do nothing they claim they do, they just haven't gotten caught yet. I agree...do the testing yourself..if it bothers your system..DON'T USE IT!

But I like the Stevia since NutraSweet is not as safe in MY opinion, but its safer than what the FDA normally says, they want all paranoid about all things you eat or drink, I am sick of that.

Saying that sucralose is poison because it contains a chlorine molecule is like saying water will increase your chances of spontaneously combusting because it contains two hydrogen particles which are very flammable. Seperate elements in very high concentrations are deadly, yes, but when combined on the molecular level they are safe. The addition of the molecule just turns sucrose into an alcohol which isn't absorbed into the body easily, that's all. Sucralose is completely safe.

Also, Stevia has NOT been fully approved by the FDA. It's okayed as a dietary supplement but not as a true sugar substitute. There is still a lot of pending research on wether or not regular use of Stevia causes birth defects and accelerates cancer. It's still banned from use in parts of the world.

There's just as many horror stories about Stevia as there are about sucralose.

...in other words, there's nothing perfect about ANY artificial/alternate sweetner. ALL of them have good things and bad things, and each person reacts differently to each one. Find out which one works best for you and stick to it.

Aspartame is very dangerous to your health and if anyone says otherwise they need to do their homeowrk on this product. This ingredient is already outlawed in the UK cause it actually is a poison especilly for diabetics. The safest sugar substitue that I found is at www.justlikesugarinc.com and its delicious.

first of all, anything that says "FDA approved" does not mean it is good for you. USDA just means that the government is in control of your food.....and your drugs LOL Go figure, and they "approve"s stuff so you will THINK it is okay to consume.
LMAO

Secondly, no one has proven that aspartame is GOOD for you either.
Stevia is expensive but supposed to be worth it, i don't like the way it tastes though.

Also.....NO SUGAR in any form...is meant to be consumed. Try to stay away from all of it unless it is natural, like apples, watermelon etc...
duh.

No sugar in any form is meant to be consumed? What about natural, raw sugar cane, pure maple syrup and honey? These things in moderation wouldn't hurt anyone (except maybe a diabetic), just like 100% juice in moderation doesn't kill or make people fat. Unwise choices and overdoing it does.

Absolutely NOT. Are the Aspertame CEO's paying you off to say that, like they paid off the FDA?

I'm glad to see so many comments on this. There is so much evidence and research about how this sweetener is dangerous - a simple google search provides a ton of information. There are problems with Splenda too. Not to mention there is also research about how these sweeteners are just as addictive as sugar, and cause you to crave/want more food and thus not save calories in the end.

Aspartame and all sweeteners are very dangerous to me...guess I have a sensitivity but that Splenda almost killed me...went immediately into anphalactic shock and almost died...took two weeks to get over that one. I demonstrated Aspartame years ago and even at that time it was a known danger..something to do with the brain. Now I just limit my regular sugar and use nothing else.

Totally do NOT agree with this answer! Aspartame is a chemical that our bodies do not recognize and therefore our bodies see it as something that cannot be absorbed or digested. That is not good! What about the links that they have discovered between aspartame and alzheimers! Its a chemical...keep it out of our bodies!

Yes please do your homework...aspartame and sucralose are processed with chlorine, and it has been shown that your body responds the same to these ARTIFICIAL sweetners as it does to sugar. They may have fewer calories but to consider them better for you is a huge stretch!!!!!
Try Stevia, raw sugar if you aren't diabetic...but as stated in a couple of these other posts do your own research please!!!!!

Boy, google sure makes people stupid. "I read it on the Internet, it must be true"

How about looking for peer reviewed studies by real scientists and not the belief of some hysterical layman looking for something to blame.

SHOW ME THE SCIENCE.

Just because it isn't proven to be dangerous to your health, doesn't mean it isn't! In fact there is a lot of research about the dangers of artificial sweeteners, just google and you will find plenty. Also worth checking out who funds the research that says they are safe......when you find a lot of the studies are funded by the manufacturers, or people who have financial interests in the company they take on a whole new slant.......
