Smart Snacking: Plan for Success

By eDiets Staff

Whether you work in a home office or have a one-woman operation, the life of an entrepreneur can make it difficult to follow a low-carb diet. Working alone increases the temptation to nibble, especially if there’s a refrigerator full of high-carb and forbidden treats! As a result, sole proprietors often complain about weight gain, also known as “entrepreneur’s syndrome.”

Sound familiar? Want to change your game plan for success? Here are the three keys to a jump-start for your low-carb entrepreneurial lifestyle:

1. Plan ahead. If you have your own office outside your home, pack a low-carb lunch and some low-carb treats, such as mozzarella cheese sticks, hard-boiled eggs and crunchy bacon. Schedule your snack times and meal times, so you have no reason to dip your hand into the snack bag throughout your day. Working from home? Make it a rule to eat only in the kitchen — and keep that refrigerator off-limits except at your scheduled snack and meal times!

2. When you’re tempted to nibble at high-carb foods, do a self-check. Are you really hungry? If so, then keep those low-carb treats on hand so you have no reason to cheat. (And if sugary cookies dominate your cupboards, try to figure out why you’re playing a self-sabotage game!) If you’re not really hungry but just bored or in need of a break, try walking around the block or call a friend to chat.

3. Do you use food as a reward for finishing a gnarly project or passing major milestone? Substitute non-food treats, from a new magazine at the bookstore to a long hike with a buddy. Or just get out of the office, be it at home or downtown, by sipping on a cup of zero-carb espresso at your favorite coffee house. You can even take paperwork to a cafe and enjoy a low-carb beverage.

Are you ready to the low-carb approach work for you? eDiets and Atkins have teamed up to provide you with personalized versions of this popular weight loss approach. You’ll receive customized meal plans, menus and recipes, in addition to 24/7 peer and professional support.
