Ask Raphael: Starting Boot Camp

Raphael,
I just got your Best Body Boot Camp DVD, when should I change from workout to workout? Or how many should I do a day? I haven’t done any yet, but I do walk a few miles a day, about 5 times a week. But that’s about it. What do you think?

Jo Ann,

Thanks for investing in the eDiets Best Body Boot Camp DVD. I enjoyed making the DVD and I’m happy to say it’s been the number 1 selling product in the eDiets company store since it was announced in 2009. In case you don’t already know, I also moderate a 6-week online program that combines the DVD with daily coaching.

You may want to join our next class beginning Jan 10, 2011. You have to be an eDiets member to join, but the amount of weight that members have lost in each of the 6-week programs has been amazing. I coach members each and every day during the 6-week process. In addition, Cathy (one of the fitness models in the DVD) assists me with the online coaching. Cathy has lost 115 pounds and is now a personal trainer.

As far as your question, I recommend beginning with the workout that corresponds to your current experience level. In your case, it sounds like starting with the Basic Training plan 3-4 days your first week would be the way to go.

As you progress, you can mix and match the workouts based on energy levels, too. So if you’re having a low energy day, choose one of the less demanding sessions.

Assuming you’ll begin with Basic Training, here is what I recommend based on your current exercise experience:

Week 1: Basic Training 3 days

Week 2: Basic Training 4 days

Week 3: Basic Training 5 days

Week 4: Battle Ready 2 days and Basic Training 2 days

Week 5: Battle Ready 3 days and Basic Training 1 day

Week 6: Battle Ready 4 days

Week 7: Advanced Camp 1 day and Battle Ready 3 days

Week 8: Advanced Camp 2 days and Battle Ready 2 days

Once you reach week 8, you’ll have a good understanding of how to move forward. You have a lot of options. You can use the DVD up to 5-6 days per week, but I wouldn’t recommend that every week because you may burn out.

Continue your walking program as well. With the combination of Boot Camp and your walking program you’ll lose body fat and dramatically improve your fitness level.

Best of luck, Jo Ann!
