Salty Food For Thought

A recent article on msnbc.com highlighted the 20 saltiest foods in America from many popular chain restaurants. Some of them are no big surprise, but others were surprising as they come from my favorite restaurants!! Another shocker? A few of the items on the list are from restaurants that many people think have lighter, healthier cuisine.

For example, number 14 on the list, the saltiest Chinese Entree: “P.F. Chang’s Beef with Broccoli” contains 3,752mg sodium, 1,120 calories, 65g fat. Wow!!! This amount warrants the suggestion that everyone definitely should look at the nutrition facts more carefully.

Many people take in way more sodium than the body needs, and it is apparent that most restaurants are not looking out for our best interest. In today’s fast food and chain restaurant market, salty foods are abundant, and the best way to control and limit intake of salt is to prepare food ourselves.
