Don’t Catch Yourself Singing the “Holiday Blues”

Although for many of us the holiday season means happiness and joy, there are still situations in life that can affect our spirit, especially during this time of the year; a change in life, moving, a death of a loved one, losing your job are just a few situations that can cause what is called the “Holiday Blues”.

The Holiday Blues are generally caused by high expectations about the season and comparison with what it could be or was in the past. Since commercialism tends to over-do the holiday concept as the perfect season for everybody, people tend to think and dramatize how family members can become friendlier, the presents and abundance of food, and how people gather to enjoy each other. Then reality often falls short and depression sinks in.

There are things you can do to manage and even prevent these Holiday Blues so you can really have a good season. Accept and enjoy your present, and plan ahead so you can have a great holiday experience of your own!

Did You Have a Crush on Your Teacher?

Like the post?  Add Your Comments  |  Digg This Post!  |

I can still remember my guitar teacher; dark brown, wavy hair, the smell of his clothes from that fragrant tobacco of his pipe, and an accent from Spain that fascinated me!! I was 9 years old and still remember him. I loved to go to my guitar classes and was a very good student too. I guess I wasn’t alone...

Psychologists say that an innocent crush on a teacher can help a child perform better in school since he or she “clings” to every single word the teacher says, and try to do his or her best to impress the educator. Kids are also known to go to after school learning activities where the teacher will be participating. Eventually, these school activities may boost the child's learning process.

Although we hear stories about inappropriate student-teacher relationships, generally this kind of “crush” is positive and related to the child's need to look for a role model. Of course, if you notice your son or daughter not talking about the teacher any more or behaving timidly or unusual, this could be a warning of wrong doing. Always keep an eye out for it!

Do You Really Think Married Men do Less Housework than Live-In Boyfriends?!?

No matter if you live with your boyfriend or are married, I know what you are thinking...been there, seen that!!

But a recent study from sociologists at George Mason University and North Carolina State University, which involved 17,000 people from 28 different countries, indicate that married men perform less household labor than cohabiting ones. However, they didn't follow up with those living together to see if after marriage they changed their habits, which would have been very interesting.

The study suggests that no matter where you live in this world, gender or marriage "ideology" is more influential on how the labor is divided even if the couple thinks they are in an egalitarian relationship.

I still hope my husband will get more involved in the household chores...with time!

In forty years of marriage my husband has never done any housework that I can remember. Not even in the early years. Not even when I've been down and out for medical reasons - like a knee replacement. I still love him and at this point in my life I don't expect him to do anything. If I poop out, what ever still to be done doesn't get done (his room is always last on my list).
I never a live-in boyfriend so can't comment on them.

Do You Trust Your Man at the Supermarket?

Like the post?  Add Your Comments  |  Digg This Post!  |

We have all been through this when you send your spouse or partner to the supermarket and they come home with less food but an expensive grocery bill. I have been there and it can be frustrating! If you do not believe me, read on. According to the article men shop inefficiently, which leads to missed sales for retailers. Many men have difficulty finding items, fore go buying rather than risk purchasing a substitute for an item on the grocery list, and hesitate to ask for help if they can't find an item. So should we send our men with a budget, shopping list and calculator? Or do we trust their good judgment?

This too funny! I just sent him out last night to get groceries with my fingers crossed!

My hubby did all the shopping for a while. He is better with coupons and sales then I am, the problem he has, is buying stuff he thinks we like. He buys my daughter cookies, but she doesn't eat cookies. Or for me Fat Free cookies, which are not helpful for losing weight. Then would wonder why I wasn't losing after buying sausage and no veggies?
