Crimes of Fashion

We've all seen it, the completely clueless fashion victim. Mismatched, wrinkled and wearing last decade's most popular paisley print. They seem to be oblivious to the outside world. Do they bask in the fashion ignorance and welcome the giggles and jeers of judgmental fashion onlookers? Do they own a mirror? Did someone tell them that looked good?

It's hard to say what makes someone a repeat fashion offender. It could be that no one took the time to teach them the fashion ropes or it could be that they simply don't care. Regardless of the reason, these style outcasts may simply need a bit of direction to help them with their style snafus.

Since fashion trends come and go, what's hot today will surely be ridiculed tomorrow. (Remember trucker hats?) It can be hard to know what to wear and how to wear it. From bellbottoms to French-rolled jeans -- and everything in between -- styles change willy-nilly in an almost daily revolving door of dress up.

No one is suggesting you should be a slave to fashion trends, but there are certain glaring fashion faux pas that are never in style. These wardrobe woes are the most offensive fashion fouls as reported by you, the reader. Without further ado, the reader fashion disasters...

Mentioning Unmentionables
One of the major problems people saw were caused by that which is not supposed to be seen. When it comes to undergarments, no one needs to see what you've got under your clothes. It's careless and doesn't look so good, as one reader explains:

"Wearing a black bra with a white blouse looks bad. Even worse is when a woman wears spaghetti straps or tube tops with her bra straps showing."

She continues by explaining that the only thing worse than these bra busts is "when a woman clearly past her prime" wears no bra at all. If you burned your bra in the sixties, you should be wearing one now.

And as another reader points out: Matching your underwear to your outerwear is crucial.

Beyond color coordinating your unmentionables, make sure to wear something, anything, if you're wearing a skirt. You don't want to pull a Britney Spears, nothing's worse than flashing your goods in public -- that is not classy.

Size Matters
Sizing varies so greatly from store to store that finding clothes that fit right can be a challenge, that's why you should buy clothes to fit, not to size.

"Only wear clothes that fit you well. If you wear clothes that are too baggy -- contrary to what you may think -- they make you look heavier," explains Leslie "Missus Smarty Pants" Gonzales. "The same goes with tight clothes. When clothes fit you too snugly, they show every bulge and create ugly horizontal lines!"

"Clothing that is over size 16 should never use horizontal lines," suggests Sharon from Missouri, who agrees with Missus Smarty Pants. "Clothing that is too tight on full-figured women is not flattering -- from any angle."

The only place muffin tops are good is at the breakfast table. Squeezing into jeans too small for your body isn't going to make you look any slimmer. Try things on and get your size, regardless of what the tag says.

Miscellaneous fashion flubs:

"Sporty shorts with high heels. This gives a hooker look to anybody who wears it."

"Tracksuits only look right on the track or in the gym. Anywhere else and they just look like you haven't bothered to dress yourself."

Unpainted toenails with sandals and penciled-on eyebrows also get an honorable mention.

I think that wearing socks with sandals is a fashion no-no.

The worse I have seen is women over 50 wearing sleevless tops. There are some exceptions but usually women over 50 have skin hanging over the underarm and it really looks bad.

I don't think that unpainted toenails with sandals are a fashion crime - As long as your feet and toenails are clean and well groomed. Not everyone does nail polish, either on their hands or feet.

A big fashion crime in my opinion is looking like you're wearing your pajamas/loungewear out and about in public. Children and college students might be able to get away with it (maybe), but if you're an adult, I think you should at least try to make and effort and dress yourself in real clothes.

TIGHT, LIGHT, COLORED PANTS ON HEAVY WOMEN. YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THEIR CELLULITE!

Pregnant woman and girls who think wearing the small tops that thay wore before they got pregnant was cute, I think it looks just as bad on the celebs as well....Yuk

woman and girls who were thongs that they show, I dont wnat to see the string that go between there but cheeks grose!!!!Also when there pants are so thin you know they are wearing one, there butts look like cottage cheese. If they dont want panty lines they should opt for the new capri length undergarments that many stores offer, much more attarctive.

My biggest thing against fashion is when these guys dress. ..well just dumb. . .they wear really baggy pants that hang past their butt and then they have so much material around their ankles that they have to use rubber bands to keep them from dragging. . .and their ridiculously long shirts that hang to their knees, or and some guys stuff their shoes and leave them untied, I mean what is that all about. Guys it doesn't look good at all. I have not meet one women that says that looks hot. Let me tell you fellas, we like to check out your butt and we can't do that if you are wearing all that. . .find clothes that fit!!

The worse thing I've seen is the color of someone's thong! It's really TMI when someone bends over (in low-riding jeans) and all the world can see her thong band! It's not only gross but it's unladylike too!

Dark roots. If you are going to embark upon bleached hair - then make sure to keep the roots touched up! Dirty shoes and shoe laces are another no-no. You don't need a lot of money to maintain your clothing!

I most definitely agree with the "wearing clothes that are baggy, makes you look bigger"..Buying and wearing maternity clothes(even if it looks cute)when you're not pregnant is a no no..it's right up there with the baggy thing..And why do that anyway?

The worst I've seen and the thought still makes me gag...is women (lots of different ones) at the gym with almost see through spandex pants of any color with no underwear...

Is this a new fashion statement??? They purposely do a lot of bending over & twisting down which leaves everything pretty much exposed. I mean talk about leaving nothing to the imagination...just totally gross!

Not just the thongs but what is with all these girls and guys that have butt crack showing all the time? We used to laugh at the refrigerator repairman style and now young people walk around with half their butt crack out there....very bad.

Guys wearing baggy pants - I am talking about where they have to have one hand free to hold their pants up so they can walk without tripping or having their pants fall completely off of them - half of their underwear is showing - all the material is gathered around their shoes - they are walking on their hems and most of the time their shoes are not tied - Besides looking awful, they are an accident waiting to happen. It is not fashion and if that is the statement they want to make about themselves; then it is a very poor unflattering statement.

the worst fashion crime is wearing thongs that show. The article mentioned bra straps. That's NOTHING compared to the thong straps. G-R-O-S-S!!!!

I am soooo tired of seeing people out and about in their jammy pants. If you can't bother to get dressed, stay home.

i think yall should stop judging people so much. who cares anyways? like the "no woman over 50 should wear sleeveless tops" psshh - NO ONE SHOULD HAVE A SAY OVER WHO CAN WEAR WHAT! how bout that! :P

Wearing a white bra with a white blouse looks even worse on women of colour. All you see is the white bra sticking out. Same goes for a white skirt/pants. Black women needs black or dark coloured undergarments.

I agree that bra straps are not meant to be seen.

Penciled on eyebrow are very bad, but the people who don't pencil in their light eyebrows, they have dark hair & to much eyeshadow all the way up to their eyebrows is the worst..

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion in the matter of fashion, but people will still continue to wear what they please, how they please, when they please. It's just a fact of life.

Some of these things are bad, and yes there are worse things to see out there: for example, the thong straps when women bend over, or even hiked up so you can see when they are walking around. It's just their 'style' whether the rest of the public like it or not.

Seeing bra straps with a tank top is no big deal really, who cares? Not everyone likes the feel of strapless bra's or really wants to go all out to impress everyone with their 'fashion'. Unpainted toenails is a fashion crime? Who gives a ---- about that? I'm not looking at people's feet when they are wearing sandals, flipflops, heels and whatever else that will show some toes. Some people don't like nail polish anyway, just keep those babies under control and theres no problem - in my opinion.

Everyone those who lecture and write and 'improve' the fashion of others, have their own fashion crimes anyway because no one is perfect. I don't particularly thing it matters all that much, depending on the circumstances. Wearing panties with skirts and not looking like a hooker when you're going out somewhere is definately something that you should keep in mind but otherwise I'm not too sure what the big deal is.

It's just clothing, if you don't like it then don't look at them.

Women wearing too tight spandex pants that show every line, dimple, you get the idea.

Does anyone look in the rear view anymore???

I am guilty of the no bra most of
the time because I have an asymmetrical shoulder and tension
and the straps are just down right
uncomfortable I cover any stand-outs or wear heavy shirts that don't show anything So, if it is
health related I don't believe the
no bra thing is such a no-no

As far as clothes too tight, well
all of us can't just go replace
clothes all the time or when our
weight changes so this may be a
no-no but it may be unavoidable
too

My fashion no-no consideratin is
excessive makeup and that horrible
lip-sack looking celluloid or botox
whatever they enhance lips with
Women look like refugees from another star

I personally do see what other people wear and have a comment for everyone I don't know why it must be where I'm from. But when i think I mean if I see a chubby woman who's wearing a sleeveless top at my clothing size I do think it's ummmm... awkward... because i think how can they wear that w/out looking insecure??? I'm skinnier than them and i cnt wear it w/out thinking of how fat i might look!!!

I've seen alot of ugly disgusting stuff like bulky women that wear tight tight clothes i mean common now, STOP wearing MY clothes!!!

Ok, a big no-no in my book is low slung sweat pants on heavy women with butt crack tatoos. Your eye is immediately drawn there, and frankly I don't want to see it.
