Dear eDiets:

I have been wearing very natural colors, like browns, tans and sometimes plum on my eyes for many years and I want to update my eye color. I would like something more dramatic, but still keep it appropriate for work. Also, if I go out after work or on the weekends, I want to be able to dress it up a little. What would you recommend?

Changing a look from daytime to evening does not require a whole new look, or starting over from scratch. A few easy tips will have you going from office to dinner in a matter of minutes.

A neutral color scheme such as brown or plum, is most appropriate for work, but don't be afraid to try other colors like grays and pinks, which are also work-friendly. The easiest eyeshadow technique is what I like to call the "three color approach." Choose a light color to wear all over the lid, a medium color in the crease, and a relatively dark color to wear on the outer third of your lid, which creates depth. This technique can be used with any color palette, as long as you keep all three colors within the same family. Then, add liner and mascara.

For the office, you can wear blush, but you don't have to. If you decide to wear it, choose a color that closely resembles the color of your cheeks when you are flushed, for the most natural look.

Lipstick should be relatively conservative, so stick with neutral colors that are not too dramatically different from your own natural lipcolor. Clear lipgloss is also perfect for daytime.

At night and evening hours, it is acceptable to wear heavier makeup, since the light is dimmer and you want your features to stand out. If your daytime look is brown, try a deeper shade of brown or even a rich eggplant or plum on the outer corner of the eyes. Gray eyeshadow can be emphasized with a deep navy. Mascara also adds some glamour, so if you wear brown during the day, switch it to black at night. If you are already wearing black mascara, try a colored mascara in plum, navy or even green. Caboodles, Almay Bright Eyes and Yves Saint Laurent all make colored mascaras, ranging from navy to green to burgundy.

If you are wearing blush, apply a little more color underneath the cheekbone to contour. Another quick change is to use a highlighter, which is a light-toned powder, usually with shimmer that is worn on the top of the cheekbone, under the brow bone, and collarbone. Highlighters are generally too much for daytime, but add some fun sparkle for evenings out. Physician's Formula Virtual Face Powder and Stila All Over Shimmer Powder are two great highlighters and come in a variety of tones and colors.

On lips, anything goes for evening. Try a great red lipstick, which is classic but not too over the top. Anything with shimmer is also great to change your look for nighttime. Check out Revlon Superlustrous Lipgloss in Cherries in the Glow, Toast to Shine or Pink Afterglow.

I am a cosmetologist and when I describe application, there needs to be visuals along with it, other wise it is weak. This article is somewhat weak, as it had no visuals. also there was nothing new about it. It seems we have been going round and round with the same old routines.

I wanna know how to get the look that they showed in the picture next to the link for this article. That woman's shadow was so rich, bold and daring. I loved it!

Doing great makeup is simple when you get a hang of it. I've done way better makeup than the picture they showed, but you have to use good quality makeup. MAC is my favorite. They're bright colors and they don't test on animals. The other key is blending. Say if you were to blend dark purple into your skin color, use a lighter shade of purple or a pink then use white under your eyebrow. Blend eyeliner too if you have trouble with it smearing after an hour. I use a sponge to blend then lightly brush some shadow along and that usually helps it stick. Also, for eyeshadow put a very light coat of creamy eyeshadow or lip gloss over your eyelid. The powder will stick to it better but if you use too much then it will make the shadow clump in the crease of your eyelid. A few years ago I knew nothing about makeup. Now I'm so good I never see anyone with makeup like mine, I get great compliments all the time and people always look at you because you look so beautiful.
