The Hall of Shame honors the worst of our guilty pleasures -- unhealthy food. Here are this edition's freaky foods:

Crazy for cocoa and Crisco mixture
My favorite mess was a concoction I used to make because we only had dry cocoa powder in the house and I wasn't old enough to cook, so had to find another way to use it. I would take a cup of dry powder milk, a cup of sugar and about a 1/2 cup of cocoa, mix it with some Crisco and then add milk until it was the texture of cake icing. This was my solution to a chocolate craving. But thinking back on it, it was really gritty from the sugar, and the Crisco didn't help it any.
--June Moore

Tremendous exhibition of gluttony
When my daughter lived in Wilmington, NC, she had a girlfriend whose husband ate one dozen doughnuts at one time. He would go to Krispy Kreme when the hot sign was on, buy one dozen doughnuts, stack them on top of one another, and then squish them down to an eatable size -- one large "doughnut" made out of 12 hot ones. Ugh!
--Sherrill Norman

Homemade cookies were GRRRREAT!
When I was in college, I used to mix up chocolate-chip cookie dough from scratch, crunch up half a box of Frosted Flakes and add it to the dough. I would bake it just until the top was crispy brown and the inside was gooey and wet. My roommate would eat it with a spoon. Mmm. Her friend from class tried it once and said it tasted like fingernail pie (because of the frosted flakes), but we LOVED it! Talk about the Freshman 15!
--R. Turner

Never tried sister's sandwich
My sister used to eat a sandwich made of peanut butter, bologna and banana with barbecue sauce on white bread. I never got the nerve to try it myself. But she seemed to enjoy them very much.
--Carol

Peanut butter and syrup sandwiches
I don't think my food is gross at all but my family cringes each time I fix it. When I was growing up, Mother would mix butter and syrup or peanut butter and syrup in a bowl and we would eat it on light bread. As I have gotten older, I still enjoy the treat of peanut butter (about 1 cup) and syrup (about 1/2 cup and has to be Daddy Buck's cane syrup), but I skip the bread and sit down instead with just a spoon and the creamy mixture. I think pineapple and mayonnaise sandwiches are delicious also but the peanut butter with syrup is my all-time favorite comfort food!
--Tammy

'Wouldn't dare serve that now'
When I was in college, my favorite cafeteria meal was chili with a side sandwich of peanut butter. The peanut butter had to be piled on fresh white bread and then dipped into the chili! Back then, I walked it off going up and down hills to classes. I wouldn't dare serve that now!
--Nancy M.

Grandma loved mayonnaise
When I was a kid, my grandmother used to take us to the beach a lot. She would make all of the lunches for me and my cousins. She would take peanut butter, spread it on white bread and put mayo on top. I actually used to like it but, the thought of ever eating it today makes me want to vomit. Oh yeah, she would put mayo on our hot dogs, too, which I never ate, yuck!
--Shiren F.

A popular treat -- bread and sugar
Probably a lot of people remember this delightful treat. It was my favorite as a kid -- bread and sugar. Just take a nice, soft, chewy piece of white bread, preferably from the middle of the loaf, spread with a thick layer of butter and sprinkle with a generous portion of white sugar. Fold it in half and eat. We were in cavity heaven!
--Marilyn Ware

Makes you want to dance
An avid dancer's mix of protein and sugar -- cottage cheese mixed with plain M&M's. YUMMY! Of course, that was 15 years ago.
--Felicity Schmerfeld

A bad habit died young
I love reading this column! I must say, I've been tempted to try bacon with peanut butter. Even the King himself, Elvis Presley was said to indulge in huge sandwiches with these two ingredients together. (This makes me think of his unfortunate demise.) When I was little, I'd open a box of brown sugar or powdered sugar, whichever one was handy, grab a spoon, and go to town while watching television. I'm so glad that was a bad eating habit that died young, instead of me!
--Gina

I love peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. I can't eat bread so now I eat peanut butter and pork rinds. Not as good as bacon but it suffices.

When I was a kid, it was all about the bread, butter, and cinnamon sugar! I loved taking buttered toast and dumping cinnamon sugar all over it!

Peanut butter and chocolate! Who doesn't love this combination? When I get a craving I just throw some chocolate chips into a jar of peanut butter and eat it by the spoonfulls. I don't even want to calculate the calories... I'm guessing in the thousands!

I make a sandwich on white bread with margarine and frosted flakes! It's like I'm channeling Ally Sheedy from the Breakfast Club, except I'm not as cool as she is ;)

My Dad started adding a peanut butter sandwich to every meal, and eventually the peanut butter topped the garlic bread that accompanied his spaghetti. I created a delicious sandwich from this idea. Butter two pieces of toast for outside of sandwich, spread peanut butter on inside of one slice, top with meaty spaghetti sauce, cheese, and hot sauce. So good, and very satisfying!

When I was growing up, we didn't have a lot of money for sweets - white bread with butter and sugar were yummy treats. Wow, I havent had one of those in years.

I too ate peanut butter, mayo, & lettuce sandwiches on white bread. I still do. You need the lettuce for crunch!

My brother used to make his breakfast into what we called "Civil War on a Plate". He would put butter & grape jelly on his homemade buttermilk biscuits & then top it with the white gravy (our family makes it out of bacon drippings instead of sausage). Then, he'd mix it all up so it had this blueish-gray color & then eat it with a spoon. My sister & I could never watch him eat it -- we'd surround his plate with cereal boxes to hide it.

After reading all of these peanut butter concoctions, I must throw in mine. My Mom made peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches, I liked them then and continue to this day. But my husband thinks it is the strangest combo he has ever seen. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

my stepfather makes his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches "special" -- a thick later of butter, a fourth of a jar of peanut butter, and large dollops of strawberry jelly on thick bread slices. I shudder to wonder as to the calorie content..

Growing up in Germany, french fries
were not served with ketchup, but a big helping of mayonaise on the top. Some people also enjoyed vinegar on top of this fatty treat.

well I have recently gone to culinary school and one of the most interesting thing I tried and really enjoyed was bacon pieces dipped into chocolate. it may seem strange but the combination of salty and sweet, yum. only enjoy in small pieces. later I found out it now available as a gourmet candy bar somewhere in the usa.
