Hungry Girl: 5 Recipes Under 200 Calories

Face it: At some point, you’re going to be hungry. The difference between gaining and losing weight is what you do about this hunger. Many times, these hunger pangs manifest themselves as powerful cravings for our favorite foods.

These insatiable urges for sweets, cheeses or chocolates can lead us off our path of healthy eating and down the road of overindulgence and weight gain. You don’t need to give up your favorite foods, but you do need to control the portions you eat.

Hungry Girl was kind enough to give us an advanced copy of her new book, Hungry Girl: 200 Under 200: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories. The recipes are broken down into fun categories like Egg-stravaganza, Tortilla Madness, Sweet Stuff and Fun with Cool Whip.

200 Under 200 is chock-full of great recipes and healthy substitutes for all of your favorite foods, but the best part is that you never have to feel guilty — nothing is over 200 calories!

“If you want to indulge a little, these recipes are perfect because they are portion controlled, making them ideal for mini-meals or snacks,” says eDiets Director of Nutrition Services Pam Ofstein. “Often when we have a craving for something specific, we go off our plan and consume more calories than we bargained for.”

In addition to the 200 great recipes, this cookbook is loaded with interesting food facts and trivia, as well as clever meal titles from Lisa Lillien, the author and creator of the popular Hungry Girl Newsletter, who admits to having a proclivity for puns.

With recipe names like Oat-rageous Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Hakuna Frittata, Just Fondue It, Hungry Girl-nola and (my personal favorite) “Swirls Gone Wild” Cheesecake Brownies, you’re certain to find something you’ll love.

Hungry, yet?

Here are five of our favorite recipes from 200 Under 200 to satisfy your cravings without the guilt that comes from overindulging. Enjoy!

All of the ‘Hungry Girl’ recipes use fake and processed food! Yuk! How about real food, prepared well? I never use cake mixes with artificial sweetner added and on top of that, fake whipped cream? Have you ever looked at the ingredient list of these ‘foods’? They are not food, they are food-like substances that are making us sick.

I have tried many of the Hungry Girl recipes and have found all of them to be yummy, filling and work with my diet.
The 100 calorie things are ok, but expensive. Besides, eat enough of them in one day and you’ve blown it. They don’t have much in the way of nutrients and you will find yourself hungry soon.
