Here’s a healthier take on the classic chili dog. Serve it with some tortilla chips to scoop up the extra chili!
Ingredients:
4 hot dogs – 98% fat-free
4 whole wheat hot dog buns
10 oz. ground turkey breast – 8% fat
½ cup chopped onion
6 oz. canned green chili peppers, chopped
6 oz. canned diced tomatoes
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tbsp Chili powder
4 tbsp low fat shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups white corn tortilla chips, unsalted
Instructions:
To make the chili topping, brown ground turkey in olive oil. Once browned, add onions and cook until soft. Add garlic, chili powder, chili peppers and tomatoes; stir to mix well. Simmer on low heat for about an hour.
Once chili is prepared, preheat the grill to medium heat. Place the hot dogs on the grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned. If desired, place buns on grill to toast. Place hot dog in a bun and spread 3 tbsp chili over the hot dog; sprinkle with 1 tbsp of cheese. On the side, plate ½ cup of tortilla chips and top off with 1 tbsp of chili. Enjoy.
