Whole Wheat Pasta with Turkey Sauce, Artichoke Hearts Salad and Pineapple


Eating less red meat doesn’t mean giving up your favorite foods. This bold, flavorful recipe for whole wheat pasta with turkey sauce is proof positive that simple changes – such as substituting ground turkey for beef – can please your palate and improve your heart health.

Whole Wheat Pasta with Turkey Sauce Ingredients
3 oz. pasta, whole wheat
3 1/2 oz. ground skinless turkey breast
1 1/2 tsp. canola oil
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
2/3 cup pasta sauce, low fat, low sodium

Also Include
1/2 cup pineapple chunks

Instructions
Cook whole wheat spaghetti or linguini according to package directions while preparing sauce; drain and set aside. Heat oil to medium high in a deep, nonstick skillet or sauce pan; cook and crumble ground turkey for about 5-6 minutes until no longer pink. Add oregano and pasta sauce; bring to a boil; lower heat to a simmer. Cook sauce for about 8-10 minutes and serve over drained pasta.

Artichoke Hearts Salad Ingredients
3/4 cup artichoke hearts
1 oz. roasted red peppers, water packed
1 Tbsp. salad dressing, low fat or nonfat; low sodium

Instructions
Drain artichokes and red peppers. Dice red peppers and toss with artichokes and dressing. Serve.
